The design of a website is the most important factor for your websites success. The design of a website is the first impression of your business. A successful website design engages your site visitors and draws them in so they’ll actually spend time with your information. Here are 6 tips for creating the best website design:

1. Determine your Target Audience

Knowing your target market and what they’ll respond to is crucial. Start with identifying their age group, predominant gender, education level, what motivates them, what their beliefs are and what other companies they’re attracted to and buying from. Once you have this information you can research statistics on what colors, typefaces and imagery most appeal to your target audience so you are creating your design based on knowledge not just your own subjective tastes.

2. Choose Unique Typography

Custom typography will set your site apart form your competitors. Back in the day developers were stuck with just a handful of typeface choices, but luckily now with the creation of web friendly fonts we have hundreds of choices. You can express your brand or your website’s personality through your typefaces’ personalities. Each typeface has it’s own vibe and interpretation so do your research careful and choose typefaces that will appeal to your target audience as stated above. Custom typography will make your content stand out, and give your words personality.

3. Select a color scheme that appeal to your Target Market

When it comes to website design, one of the more important decisions you’ll make involves choosing the right colors. Colors have different meanings across different cultures. The way we perceive a certain color may not be the same as someone from Japan or the Middle East.  When planning a website, it’s important to understand who your target audience is and how that particular culture views color associations. 4. Invest in Professional Photography

Most websites rely heavily on photography, so make sure yours looks professional. If you are selling products online, hire a professional photographer, it makes a huge difference. People can easily tell what photos were taken professionally and which ones were given little thought shot from an cell phone. If you plan to use stock photos, choose reputable websites and choose photos that look the least like “stock”. Images are processed quickly, and if you’ve picked one that’s attractive and creates just a little bit of curiosity, it will draw your viewers to keep browsing.
